President's Message
A message from Secretary Leanne, on behalf of
Interim President John Peck

Last week's meeting was well attended with:
  • Kam outlining the status of the Chinese new year celebration (outlined in last weeks Gateway).
  • Brian providing an update on Skyhydrant deployment (see below).
  • Leanne thanking Disaster Aid (on behalf of Colin) for the use of their conference facilities for a Governor's meeting.
  • Leanne providing an update on Lyndale chartering an Interact Club, the possibility of another Cornerstone project is in the wind and that we are still doing the monthly meals at St Andrews.
  • Ken Tam providing an intersesting "Behind the Badge"
  • President John having a robust discussion on the committee composition and a sheet handed out so that members could sign up for the committees of their choice, which will stay in place for next Rotary year as well.
  • Some decisions made on the upcoming meetings and a call out for all members to find good and interesting speakers to add to our Program.

Cheers
John Peck

Essential Rotary meeting Tuesday 5th March 2024 (dedicated to car show)
John Ternel will do a 'run through' to ensure everyone understands what their roles will be on the day,
and will also explain any last-minute changes.

We ask that all members (especially those participating on the Sunday 10th March) register and attend this meeting.

MARCH is Water Sanitation Month
With the March theme being
"Water, Sanitation and Hygiene"
the dispatch of 5 Skyhydrants to Timor Leste and
6 Skyhydrants to Bhutan last week was timely.
You can read more about it at the
The incredible Riders and Support Group at the start of the Rotary Ride for Medical Research.
All the best to all the team and thank you
Hans for photo and the story:
'Day one of the six-day ride was an easy 79km with a tail wind from Seymour to Shepparton via Nagambie and Murchison.
The next 5 days will be harder.
Thanks so much for the sponsorship support from many of the members.
Honorary Rotary Club of Greater Dandenong & Endeavour Hills Member John Dawson is proudly presented with a very special award of Honorary Fellowship to the Institution of Surveyors Victoria which is in its 150th year.
John originally joined the Apex Club of Dandenong representing the vocation of Surveying and was a member for 16 years, retiring at age 40 years.
He then joined the Rotary Club of Dandenong and was a dedicated, passionate and extremely active member until a few years ago.
Congratulations John on an a very well-deserved award.

Ken Tam provided a very interesting
"Behind the Badge".
Originally from Johannesburg South Africa he worked for IT companies like Siemens and met his wife Lynn (also a member). It was the 1970's and apartheid demonstrations led to them moving to Australia. Identifying a market neiche they codified the primary curriculum suitable for setting up a tutoring business. They run 3 operations themselves and franchise others. Testing kids before enrolling they often run tutoring specifically so that clients can obtain scholarships into the private schools.
The Rotary Club of Colombo in Sri Lanka were extremely thankful for the relocated playgrounds harvested by our Club and Mt. Martha from City of Casey.
RORPS brings so much joy to so many children.
Lots of fun & smiles from the excited children.
Children eagerly waiting for their turn.
