Ian David Pickering

Past District Governor

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of PDG, Ian David Pickering, a member of the Rotary Club of Narre Warren. Ian’s life was a testament to the Rotary motto: "Service above self." A highly respected Rotarian, humanitarian, and a great guy. Ian dedicated his life to the ideals of Rotary, consistently offering his time, energy, and heart to make a difference both in Australia and across the globe.
Ian’s quiet leadership and unwavering commitment to helping others made him an inspiration to all who knew him. His contributions to Rotary were numerous and impactful, leaving a legacy that will be felt for years to come. He was truly one of the nicest and kindest men I have ever met.
Our sincere condolences go out to Lyn and the Pickering family. Ian’s passing is a tremendous loss, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passion for Rotary and his selfless spirit will continue to inspire us.

Friday, 13th September Lyndale Secondary College - Interact event Wheelchairs for Kids Wheelathon
On Friday, July 26th, Grant Klaayen and Russell Hayes presented the 'Wheelchairs for Kids' initiative to the Year 11 students at Lyndale Secondary College. The students were in awe of this project and were very keen to fundraise for the cause.
Following the presentation, the Interactors held a meeting to start planning the fundraising event. With the support of Grant Klaayen, they created a flyer featuring a QR code, designed posters, and worked on the logistics for the event. Planning meetings continued on Friday, August 2nd, and 9th. Each Interactor took on specific roles, some working in pairs and others separately, then collaborated and concluded with items for action.

On Friday, September 13th, Lyndale Secondary College will host an Interact event, the Wheelchairs for Kids Wheelathon.
Rotary will provide food and drinks for a BBQ lunch, which will be available to all students at the school. All proceeds from the lunch will go directly towards supporting the Wheelchairs for Kids initiative, helping to maximize the fundraising efforts for this important cause.
We are requesting volunteers from our Club to attend and assist with cooking and serving the BBQ lunch on the day of the Wheelathon.

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, 10th September, we will have the honor of hosting Margaret Zita, CEO of My Room, for a special presentation. Margaret will be accompanied by Cr Lana Formoso, Mayor of Greater Dandenong and an esteemed Ambassador for My Room.
This presentation is a significant event for our Club as we explore a new major project.
We are also excited to extend this invitation to prospective members of the Satellite Club, as their involvement will be instrumental in this initiative.

R U OK Day at Chisholm
Chisholm will be holding its annual R U OK Day event on Wednesday, 11 September. This initiative aims to promote mental health and well-being among trade students.
They will be running a BBQ for their trade students once again this year. Our involvement in this event has been greatly appreciated in the past, and we’re looking forward to participating again. If you’re interested in helping out with the BBQ, please let us know. Your support will make a big difference!
In addition to assisting with the BBQ, we have the chance to set up our own Rotary stall this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote Rotary and connect with the community.
Last year, our presence at the event was a great success, thanks to the efforts of Ben Keller, Lynn, Ken, and Leanne.

Joe Otin used numbers and statistics to talk to people about his Rotary club in Kenya. But the past district governor had a revelation one day when he shared some personal stories about Rotary with a business journalist and colleague. That journalist became a member, and Otin became convinced that sharing our stories is crucial to attracting new members. Nepal Service Projects: 2024 Update
The Rotary Club of Rosebud Rye continues its commitment to impactful service projects in Nepal. This year, a team of dedicated members from the Peninsula Rotaract Club will join the Club’s International Service Director on an inspiring journey to Nepal.
From November to December 2024, this dynamic team will participate in a series of vital projects focused on Environmental Sustainability, Health, and Education. Their efforts will contribute to the long-term well-being of communities in Nepal, reflecting our shared Rotary values of service and global stewardship.
Attendance and Participation: Regularly attend club meetings and participate actively in club activities and projects.
Service Projects: Engage in community service projects, both locally and internationally, aimed at addressing humanitarian needs, promoting goodwill, and fostering peace.
Fundraising: Contribute to fundraising efforts that support Rotary's service projects and charitable activities.
Vocational Expertise: Share their professional skills and expertise to benefit others within the club and in service projects.
