Tuesday 21 May meeting saw various guests including Owen (that delivered the Rats of Tobruk talk two weeks ago) and his wife, along with the presenter of the Prostate Cancer talk, Roy Francis with his wife Helen and 3 of the Holden Car Show judges.

President John was able to outline where some of the profits of the car show were allocated which included:
$2k Handbrake Turn

Next week is an important meeting in that committes will be doing the planning with their members and setting up aims and objectives that will be done in the next Rotary Year and your input is required for projects you would like to see put forward.

Some sad news in that it was announced the passing of John Dawson a Rotarian of 50 years standing with our club. The memorial service will be held on Monday afternoon with details available by this link and members will be welcome noting many members away or at the Rotary International Convention.

Wednesday 29 May and Monday 3 June will see another two playgrounds harvested under the RORP program. Hopefully the weather will be kind to the volunteers.

Kind regards,
Terry

Roy Francis outlined some of the facets of Prostate Cancer which include:
* 2/3 of over 65 know someone effected by prostate cancer.
* 50% of Prostate Cancers are (simply) actively monitored
* The PSA test provides an indication
* There are many different treatments (some of which he went over)
* When detected early there is an exceptionally high success rate for treatment in the over 50's.
* Those needing incontinence pads have trouble changing when out in public as facilities are rarely available in mens public toilets. There is a group that are actively trying to change that situation.
* More men die of prostate cancer than Women's Breast cancer.

Several members outlined their personal experience in the discussion that followed and one of the car show judges outlined the peer support network which he is involved at Frankston that helps with the mental health needs of those receiving a diagnosis and treatment.

Several of our members are at the Rotary International Convention in Singapore be they the Incoming Governor, representing and promoting the work of Disaster Aid Australia or simply attending. While some will be returning to Australia others will continue on to Bhutan for that conference . That conference will overview the progress to date, the results and promote ongoing Safe Water programs. We wish all our travellers a safe trip.
