Hello from sunny Queensland.
Last Saturday I saw our MUNA, (Model United Nations Assembly) teams in action at Nossal high school and they were great. We sponsored 2 teams from Lyndale Secondary School who represented India and Saudi Arabia.
I was only able to see 2 of the 4 resolutions debated on the day but it was evident the students had put in a lot of research on their countries including their relationships to one another.
The first resolution was The Global environment and a meaningful response to natural disasters. The Saudi Arabia team opposed the resolution and argued their position well.
The second resolution was change to the structure of the UN Security Council. This time the Saudi Arabia team argued in support of the resolution and were again persuasive in their speech. The Indian team also supported this resolution and spoke well citing India's history with the UN.
Some teams dressed up including the team representing the UK who dressed like a king and queen. And teams like Belarus really got into their roles, using rhetoric and speaking with passion.
Hakim from Casey Rotary Club did a great job as the Secretary General.
MUNA is one of the wonderful Rotary youth programs and I'm so glad that our club was able to sponsor 2 teams.
At the Tue 22 Aug meeting our guest speaker was Jai talking about home safety and you can read about that below.
There is no meeting 29 Aug but don't forget that our DG visit from Linda Humphries is Tuesday 5th September and is a partners night.
Please RSVP Marty through ClubRunner or email him directly.
Have a great week.
Cherie
