Hello Fellow Rotarians.
We have had an interesting and exciting week:
Beginning with the news that our Leanne Byron is now our Assistant Governor and has hit the ground running, already organising the first meeting of the Presidents. I’ve spoken to members and Presidents from the clubs in our cluster who are all keen to work together so I’m sure that there will be news soon about cluster events.
I am also happy to announce that David Langworthy has offered to be our Chair of Membership. Thanks David for taking on this role.
We received confirmation that 2 teams of students from Lyndale Secondary College have been chosen to represent India and Saudi Arabia at Mock United Nations Assembly (MUNA) and our club will be sponsoring them. Thanks Leanne for working with Lyndale College to get this happening. This year MUNA is on Saturday August 19th in the theatre at Nossal High School so there is plenty of room for members of the club to attend to show our support for our teams. See the invite below for details.
A student from Dandenong High School has approached our club for support to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) which is held in January. This is a great program where students get to travel to Australia National University in Canberra for a 2 week experience where they visit laboratories, learn from science professionals, tour uni facilities and meet industry leading science, technology and engineering companies. I can say from previous experience in sponsoring students to attend NYSF it is an invaluable experience that shows the attendees the opportunities and careers available to them in a field that they are passionate about. I will be following up with the student and the teachers that have recommended the student and will keep you all posted.
On to other club business. I was a bit disappointed with the small response to the club survey and attendance of our first club assembly. However there was some great feedback regarding interest in more vocational visits and social nights and Marty and other members are already suggesting some fun and interesting events.
We had our first board meeting on Thursday night and discussed the benefits of active committees to a club and its members. This enables members to be involved in activities and projects and support the directors to achieve our goals to assist youth and those in need in our community and internationally. To this end I would ask all members to determine what area of service you would like to be a part of and contact that director. We are looking to assign all members to a committee and you can be a member of more than one.
The committees are
Youth – Director John Peck
Community – Director Peter Faulkner
Membership – Chair David Langworthy
Vocational and Social – Marty Pater
Foundation – Anthony Brown
International – Babar Jamil
Please remember to contact Leanne about the Mental Health Forum to offer support and also purchase your ticket on the link.
And as always RSVP to meetings through Club Runner so Marty can let the Dandenong Club know how many to set the room up for.
Have a wonderful week.
Cheri
