Our Tuesday 8th August 2023 guests Joe & Teresa Rechicia from the Springvale Benevolent Society (SBS) were present and Joe presented at the club meeting.
The Springvale Benevolent Society, which is run entirely by volunteers, no money is paid for salaries or volunteer expenses. Continual support is required from organisations and individuals (donations can be made at
GiveNow) to enable the provision of donations, non-perishable goods and food vouchers.
Over the past year, the cost of food packages and vouchers was $40,000. Joe also distributed blankets, home utensils, heaters and other essential items.
For over 40 years Springvale Benevolent Society has been providing assistance to families in crisis.
Joe and Teresa have been ensuring that struggling families do not go without a meal for approx. 30 years. Joe works tirelessly, supported by Teresa and 4 volunteers at SBS, making endless 'screening' calls to people in desperate need of food for their families. He also collects food donations, stores them in the pantry at SBS, packs and delivers food packages. He always ensures there are items hidden in the bottom of the packages for the children, especially at Christmas and delivers the packages personally. He always makes sure there is a voucher included in every package.
For more than a year, the challenges have been greater than ever, as Joe has endured ill health, visits to hospital and was out of action for 2 months recently due to trips to hospital for surgery and treatment.
Our club has been supporting SBS for several years now with non-perishable items donated by members, funds raised and funds from the TOBS trust. We have always ensured we offer support during the winter months (which we haven't done as yet) and at Christmas.
PLEASE HELP OUR CLUB to support those in need by bringing along non-perishable pantry items and other essential items.
Leanne will deliver them to Joe once we have a substantial collection of items.
